Huawei @ IFA: Huawei Watch D uses a discrete pump for blood pressure + MateBook X Pro, MatePad Pro, and Nova 10 Pro launch

Huawei may not have the presence in the western consumer market that they once did, but they still churn out some amazing and often innovative hardware.

At IFA, they have launched several new products, with the Watch D being the most interesting.

For a start, the Huawei Watch D name should be all capitalised, but I refuse to write content where it looks like I am shouting the product name to you.

Ignoring that gripe, the Huawei Watch D is an interesting watch, I think I need to see it and use it before I am convinced how good it is.

It is not the first watch on the market that offers ECG or blood pressure. The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 and others already do this. But, the Huawei Watch D is the first consumer watch that I am aware of that uses a discrete mini pump and airbag to carry out blood pressure measurements.

This should make it the most accurate smartwatch with blood pressure measurements on the market. This is quite important, it is very easy to get bad results from blood pressure readings and being misdiagnosed with high blood pressure can be quite stressful or missing a diagnosis is not good for your health.

The reason why I am unsure of this watch is that the mini pump and airbag is inevitably going to add a lot of bulk.

The watch dimensions are: 51 × 38 × 13.6 mm and 40.9 g. This is not much different from the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro, that’s not as tall, but wider due to the circular design. It is, however, 3mm thinner, which could be quite noticeable on a watch.

The Watch D will be launched on the European market as a certified medical device, so users can trust that the information they are getting from their wearable device is accurate. This will likely make it appealing to anyone that has a history of high blood pressure.

Even if it is quite bulky to wear, it is likely a small price to pay for regular easy-to-do blood pressure readings.

You then have the ECG function, which works about the same as other devices on the market, you hold one finger on the heath button, and it takes a reading. This should complement the blood pressure readings well.

This watch appears to have a  few more general health functions in the app, such as daily health checking in and sharing health data with people. Again, this is ideal for people with pre-existing conditions.

Beyond that, it is mostly the same as other Huawei watches, including built-in GPS with tracking for 70 different workouts.

Not much to say about this one. It is the latest flagship laptop from Huawei that has been updated with the 12th Gen Intel Core i7-1260P Processor.

It has a 1TB NVme drive, 16GB RAM, 2x USB-C with Thunderbolt 4/USB4, and it supports WiFi 6E.

It looks perfect for anyone that needs to work on the move.

The Huawei nova 10 is similar to the Honor 70, but uses the slightly slower Snapdragon 778G, which is 4G only. Then it has a 50 MP primary camera which is different to the IMX800 on the Honor. The selfie camera is 60MP ultrawide vs a basic 32MP wide. The battery is quite small at 4000mAh, but it has fast 66W charging.

The Nova 10 Pro then adds a second 8MP portrait selfie camera and increases the battery to 4500mAh and 100W charging.

The Android tablet market is lacking at best, and Huawei is one of the few brands making good quality high spec tablets. You obviously don’t get Google, but I feel like it is easier to live without it on a tablet.

This has either the  Snapdragon 870 or Snapdragon 888, depending on the variant, so one of the most powerful tablets on the market, unless you go for the premium-priced Samsung options.

Unfortunately, there is no word on UK price or availability yet. But it does look like it will be launched at some point.
