Fraser Valley (Catherine Hercus/Sepro mixing and pumping)-Peristaltic pumps are versatile and environmentally friendly

What is a peristaltic pump? Peristaltic pumps use rotor rollers or sliding shoes to compress the tubes in the pump, generate pressure, and push fluid through the tubes. As the rotor moves forward, the compressed part expands to its original volume, creating suction that sucks in fresh mud. This design prevents contamination of the pumped fluid because only the inside of the hose is in contact with the fluid.

They are widely used in concentrators to safely transport corrosive, abrasive and viscous materials. Due to their seal-less design and low operating costs, they provide a low maintenance solution. From safe pumping of organic waste to chemical metering in water treatment plants, they provide accurate and consistent flow. Without valves and balls, these valves and balls can corrode and block. The pump can also pump in the reverse direction, so no chemicals are left in the pipeline.

They are available in 11 sizes, with flow rates from 0.2m3/hr to 110m3/hr and discharge pressure of 145 psi.

Peristaltic pumps are an environmentally friendly option because they only use 25% of the water and 60% of the electricity of centrifugal pumps. It could save 1.1 million liters of water and a lot of electricity that year!

They are also used in water treatment plants to transfer and meter chemicals. These pumps can provide accurate metering flow without the use of valves and balls. In the case of fluids containing solids or other debris, the gentle positive action of the pump is very tolerant. Even large objects can pass through the pump without damaging them.

Chemical manufacturing plants often transfer corrosive, abrasive and harmful compounds to mixing tanks and reactors. Since there is no contact between the product and the housing, corrosive chemicals can be safely transferred. The hose is also strong and can withstand the harshest materials. Since there are no internal components, maintenance is easy, leakage is small, and there is no chance of external contamination.

The fishery transports whole or chopped fish, squid, offal, fish sauce carcasses and oil without damage. Large solids can be transported throughout the factory without expensive equipment, conveyors and labor. The hose is large enough to allow the entire fish to pass through, and the fishing industry can transport their daily catch in a fast and cost-effective manner. This reduces labor costs while speeding up transportation, which is important for fresh products.

The construction and tunnel industries transport large amounts of wet sand, drilling mud and other materials. This is sometimes done through carts, manual labor, front-end loaders, and other labor-intensive methods. Using a well-designed sump and peristaltic pump can greatly simplify this process, thereby saving time, money and labor.
