50 Years Ago – 1972: Self-service is fast becoming the American way of life. First we were allowed to help ourselves in supermarkets, then department stores and drug stores. Three of the nine gasoline pumps at the Mobile Oil. Corp Service Station at Baltimore Pike and Sproul Road in Springfield have been labeled “self-serve.” A customer must get out of his car, press a button on a speaker box installed at the pumps and say “regular, premium, or special.” An attendant inside the station releases the pump by pushing a button.

SAP America Inc., the fourth largest software company in the world, has received local approval for site development of its U.S. headquarters at the ARCO campus.

10 Years Ago – 2012: Concord Supervisors held the first of a series of hearings, Sept. 4, regarding a 58-unit townhouse development on the parking lot of the former Pulsations, 240 Baltimore Pike. The Benson Companies, which presented a sketch plan in June, returned to begin the process regarding a proposed zoning amendment, conditional use and land development plan. The site, zoned C-2 Commercial, was previously approved for a 108-unit extended stay hotel.
