PEDDAPALLI:  The NTPC Ramagundam is progressing ahead to commission the unit-I of 800 MWs of stage-I of the 1600 MWs Telangana Super Thermal Power Project at the NTPC Ramagundam.

On Wednesday night, the NTPC Ramagundam successfully conducted the combined steam blowing of main steam and cold reheat steam lines of unit-I. Similarly, the Boiler Non-Drainable portion Hydro test has been completed successfully and activities are in progress for Boiler Light-up at the unit-2.

The Union government had sanctioned 4,000 MWs of Telangana super thermal power project to the Telangana state as part of the AP States Reorganisation Act 2014. Accordingly, the NTPC Ramagundam had taken up stage-I of 1600 MWs of 2×800 MW. With the successful steam blowing on Wednesday (August 31, 2022), the NTPC authorities are taking all measures to commission the 1600 MWs of the project during this financial year and thus contributing to the development of Telangana as the home state would get maximum power from the project.

The other achievements of the project including ash handling transformers have been charged and pump trial runs are in progress. The majority of piping works are completed and the slurry disposal pipelines are nearing completion.

The erection works of CHP reclaim path conveyors are completed and belt trials shall be done during this month. The unit-1 ESP (electrostatic precipitator) and FGD system are in the testing and commissioning stages which will play a vital role in the reduction of the carbon footprint of the project. The water system and GIS switchyard works are completed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the project in August 2016. The proposed cost of the project is Rs 10,598 crore and a power purchase agreement was made with TSNPDCL. NTPC authorities have decided to utilise ultra-supercritical technology, which helps in the reduction of coal consumption and causes less pollution.
