Hurricane Javad saves Sri Kakulam

Srikakulam: As Hurricane Javad changed direction, the regional government and people breathed a sigh of relief. The cyclone is moving towards Odisha and is expected to land in Puri on Sunday afternoon.

Although the cyclone changed its direction, continuous rainfall and strong winds damaged various crops in the area.

The area experienced continuous rainfall and encountered strong winds in several places.

Rice crops, coconut and cashew plantations in Itchapuram, Kaviti, Kanchili, Sompeta, Mandasa, Palasa, Vajrapukotturu, Santhabommali, Polaki, Gara, Srikakulam rural areas, Etcherla and Ranastalam were destroyed.

Papaya and banana plantations were uprooted in Etcherla and Ranastalam mandals.

Regional collector Srikesh B Lathakar advises farmers not to harvest rice until Monday.
