ABB has been selected by the CCS JV, comprising Saipem, McDermott and Chiyoda, to provide an end-to-end electrification package for the $20bn Mozambique LNG Project.

Planned to commence production in 2024, the French oil and gas company Total-led Mozambique LNG project comprises the Golfinho-Atum gas field development in the offshore Area 1 Block of the deep-water Rovuma Basin.

It also involves the construction of a 12.88 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) onshore LNG facility on the Cabo Delgado coast of Mozambique.

Under the contract, ABB team in Singapore will build 14 large onshore electrical houses or prefabricated electrical substation buildings (PESB).

Specifically designed for oil and gas applications, the PESB will be later transported to the Mozambique LNG Project site.

Additionally, ABB will integrate its electrical control and power management system alongside 110kV gas-insulated switchgears (GIS), medium voltage switchgears and low voltage switchgears.

ABB oil and gas global vice-president Johan de Villiers said: “We have optimised and customised our solutions to meet the specific technical and capital expenditure requirements of the customer.

“With ABB as the main original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for electrical systems, Mozambique LNG Project will benefit in terms of cost-efficiency, maintenance, service as well as upgrades and expansions.”

The Area 1 Mozambique LNG facility will comprise two liquefaction trains, which will have a combined nameplate capacity of 12.88Mtpa in the initial phase.
